About

Alan M. Hirsh MD, a specialist in internal medicine, has always prided himself on developing close relationships with his patients, believing that they are the key to helping people stay healthy and to diagnose and care for them when they are not. He has a strong interest in helping patients maintain wellness through healthy living and also specializes in the diagnosis and management of complex medical conditions.

As a direct result of his philosophies around wellness and patient care, Dr. Hirsh, in partnership with University Hospitals, founded the UH Select program in January, 2017. UH Select is a membership-based primary care practice that provides patients with highly personalized attention and a host of other benefits including same- or next-day appointments and access to concierge services from a dedicated patient navigator. Dr. Hirsh serves as the Medical Director of UH Select in Cleveland, bringing over thirty years of clinical and administrative experience to this role.

Having been selected by his peers as a Best Doctor in Cleveland every year since 2011, Dr. Hirsh is also recognized as a Top Doctor by Castle-Connelly, a national ranking organization. Board-certified in internal medicine, he is also a Certified Physician Executive and holds memberships in the American College of Physicians and the Association for Physician Leadership.

Dr. Hirsh received his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University and attended the University of Illinois Medical School at Chicago. Following graduation, he completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.

As of December 31, 2016, Alan Hirsh did not disclose any Outside Relationships with Industry.
